Timberborn is currently in early access, so many features are not yet implemented - the developer Mechanistry does not expect the full game to be available until late 2022 at the earliest. The game also allows vertical building, which makes perfect sense in a world where sustainability does not mean constant expansion across the landscape. The game gives you plenty of opportunities to use beaver ingenuity to survive, not just dam-building - salvage metal from the remains of human civilization to assist in your building efforts, or even use bombs to terraform to your colony’s benefit. Unlike more standard city-builders, Timberborn leans hard into its survival elements if you’re not able to effectively control the water supply while also preparing for droughts, your colony will not survive against the onslaughts of nature or other beaver factions. This “lumberpunk” city-builder gives you a choice of two factions, one more nature-oriented and one that is perfectly fine recreating the industrial revolution to survive. Timberborn is set in a post-human future where beavers are trying to salvage what remains in order to build their own societies. Here are some of the games we’re excited to play which give beavers the spotlight they’ve long deserved. Since the most noteworthy feature of the humble beaver is its dam-building, it’s not much of a surprise that these are all games with a heavy construction focus. This isn’t surprising in itself, because the beaver is considered emblematic of both the United States and Canada, but what does make it noteworthy is that it comes amidst a flurry of other games where playing as a beaver is a central component to the experience. The game is expected to stay in early access for at least a year.On Thursday Planet Zoo announced that their latest expansion pack featuring North American animals will be arriving on October 4th, and front and center in the announcement was the beaver.
#TIMBERBORN NEW BEAVERS PC#
Timberborn is now available as an early access game for PC (via Steam/Epic Games Store/GOG.com). The studio’s marketing effort, as well as their sincere attitude towards the game’s community, likely paid off.

In February of this year, the test version of Timberborn was streamed by several Twitch streamers and garnered peak viewer count of 27,000. The server has seen a lively exchange between players and the developer, and regularly hosts a discussion titled “Beaver Brainstorms” to solicit ideas from players. Their official Discord server currently has over 2,000 participants. The developer, Mechanistry, has been putting effort communicating with the players on SNS and Discord. The fact that the game is pretty stable with relatively few bugs despite being an early access game, has also been well received by the players. The concept of “beaver city-builder” has caught the attention of many gamers, and the game seems to be living up to their expectations thus far. The peak concurrent player count is little over 5,000, which is modest, and not bad for a newly released indie game ( SteamDB).

You must satisfy the needs of fellow beavers with food and entertainment, while also keeping the colony alive by building your beaver city strategically.Īt the time of writing this article, Timberborn has received over 200 Steam user reviews, 93% of which are rated positive.

In addition to using wood for construction as beavers do, you can also use metal acquired from the ruins of the old world. More beaver factions will be added in future updates. Players can choose between two beaver factions: “the nature-friendly Folktails” or “the industrious Iron Teeth.” Both have distinctive characteristics and gameplay traits, so you can pick the one that would fit your playstyle. Humans are long gone, and highly intelligent beavers have emerged to create cities. Timberborn is a city-building game set in a world where mankind turned Earth into a dry wasteland.

The beaver city-builder Timberborn launched as an early access title on September 15 and it seems to be off to a good start. Publication date of the original Japanese article: 15:12 (JST)
